  1. If you're going to make a pokemon clone, at least do it in such a way that protects you from a lawsuit.

    I think the Pokemon niche can be challenged if you go the Stardew Valley route. Harvest Moon carved out a pretty decent niche but it, like Pokemon, fell short of its ultimate potential.

    On the topic of Final Fantasy, FF Mystic Quest had a node based movement system for its overworld and you only controlled a sprite in dungeons, towns, and other specific locations.
